Making “simple soda” by squeezing summer oranges. This grape fruit juicer can squeeze firmly with less power!
Yokosuka has many really steep slopes. Facing the sea, its mild climate allows many homes to plant citrus fruits in their garden. My parents house in Yokosuka is on the cliff, too. On the slope of the bank, there is an old Japanese summer orange tree that yield an abundant harvest every year in this season. Until a few years before, my father harvested them all and my mother made jam and sugaring. However both of them are now over 80, it is difficult to take out oranges using a high-branch cutting scissors. So, this year, I also harvested them!
Well, how can we use lots of them? Summer orange jam is delicious but it is a huge job and long heating time costs on gas expense. On top of it, it is almost impossible to consume all summer oranges just by making jam..
Our summer oranges taste more sour than sweet, but juicy and rich in water. We can consume a lot by making juice!
What I introduced is a grapefruit juicer. The squeezing part has a serrated edges, indeed, I can squeeze oranges firmly with less power. It has non-slip material in under side. It is a single function product, but simple is the best! And it is dish-washable.
Half of an orange might be enough for one glass of juice. Pouring sparkling water and it’s done. If adding sweetness, either honey or sugar would be fine, but the maple syrup is easy to mix and also is delicious in natural taste.
Drinking summer orange soda every day, a big box of oranges are getting less and less. We can use all the bountiful oranges, and can easily get Vitamin C. Eventually, both the summer orange tree and our family become happy!
There may be more people who have summer orange trees in their garden in Kanagawa than we imagine? Please give it a try!
