Kana garden, the Kanagawa prefectural botanical garden located in Hiratsuka city is my favorite botanical garden where I visit every season.

In the garden, not only planting but also restaurant and shop are so stylish. It is a wonderful botanical garden where you can enjoy not only plants, but also lunch and shopping.

Opened in 2010, this year marks its 10th anniversary. The company responsible for Tokyo Disneyland’s planting is involved in the operation. The head gardener is Hidenari Yazawa, who is a lecturer in NHK’s “Shumi-no-engei (gardening as hobby)” program.

In 2020, halloween displays are from October 1st to 31st. Autumn roses are in full bloom from October to early November.

Large parking lot can accommodate 351 cars

The parking lot of Kana garden is large and very easy to park. I have never experienced no space to enter due to full of cars. You can go by car with ease of mind.

If you use public transportation, 20-minute bus ride from JR Hiratsuka station and 5-minute walk.

Kana-cho, flags commemorating the 10th anniversary welcome visitors

After body temperature check, when we went into the entrance, colorful flags were fluttering in the wind.

Those are the flags called “Kana-cho”, on which visitors can write down their smiley episodes of Kana garden to commemorate the 10th anniversary. The colors of flags are stylish, too.

When passing through the entrance, we can see a huge lawn square spreading in front of us. This wide, spatial atmosphere is one of the advantages of this botanical garden. Of course, we can eat lunch, take a nap, on the lawn.

On sunny day, we can see clearly Mt. Fuji, Tanzawa and Oyama. In winter, it is especially beautiful.

Welcome to the Halloween party in the field!

The planting in the garden was also decorated with Halloween colors.

There are many photo spots where you can take pictures with decorations. Here, you can sit next to Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkins and take a picture. It looks like a picture book.

A field with full of autumn flowers. Yes, we want to take pictures!

Take a rest at the house of Karel Chapek

Kana garden models after Karel Chapek, a Czeck story writer and horticulturist. He is also the author of the famous essay, “the Gardener’s 12 Months”. Here is a rest house that imitates Chapek’s house and garden where he spent his enriched life with gardening.

In the backyard of the rest house, cosmos were blooming in the clear autumn sunshine.

Grass road and Salvia garden

In the section called Grass road, gramineous plants were collected. Fine pink ear tips were twinkling.

In the Salvia garden, colorful salvias are all in full bloom. There are ones with complicated color combinations and with color shades that I had never seen before.

The scent of autumn-blooming roses

In the rose garden, there are sections divided by varieties of roses such as old rose, modern rose and English rose. There is also the fragrant rose area where visitors can bring faces closer and enjoy the luxury of roses’ fragrance like perfume.

In the background of the transparent autumn sky, a crimson rose was blooming with her back straight.

Two roses looked like two young girls who were chatting between good friends.

Endless expanse of autumn blue sky

Autumn blue sky that would make me take a deep breath naturally. There was nothing to block in the sky where we looked up from Kana garden. It was a wonderful holiday.

On the way home, a little ghost smiled at me saying, “see you next year again on Halloween!”.
